Show #40, 09-08-2019: Post Oakland Pride, the soon to be shuttered Queer space, The Octopus Literary Salon, hosted a four top of local Homocore/Rock bands including The LadyKillers, Middle-Aged Queers, Eric Core & Lolly Gaggers.

The small room was packed to the rafters when The LadyKillers took the stage. Rising from the ashes of Bay Area staple band, The Hail Marys, Ladykillers offer a banging, Hard Rock sound with killer shreds, drumming, sick bass lines and great singing. They were the perfect pick to set the tone for the evening.

Relative newcomers, The Middle-Age Queers, were up next. Helmed by singer Shaun Osborn the post Hardcore crew threw down a super solid set drenched in Punk tradition and politically sound lyrics. Who doesn’t love a chorus that includes shouting the phrase, “Fuck YOU!”?

I sadly completely missed Erik Core’s set due to my need for grub and chat time w/some favorite pals but was able to make it back in time for my favorite, Bay Area, Death Rock meets Punk Queercore crew, Lolly Gaggers. Their tight set popped off like a Saturday Night Special in the hands of a drunken 12 year old. Quick, staccato driven songs covering a myriad of subjects tied with SF/Oakland specific places and situations.

It was a great bill and I look forward to getting to see each of these talented bands at my earliest opportunity. And as always I encourage everyone to support local music – especially Queer/POC/Women led and created.
